The Dynamic Systems team handles design, integration,
qualification, and certification of the gearboxes, propellers,
rotors and associated systems. This position will work closely with
Flight Technology, Airframe, Assembly & Integration, Vehicle
Management System, Flight Controls, and System Safety teams to
design rotor blades, hubs and controls to ensure the systems are
reliably crafted, and provide a safe and efficient means to propel
our aircraft. What you can do:
- Lead rotor hub and blade design activities; this involves
crafting 3D conceptual layouts of rotor hubs and blades and the
associated control mechanisms including rough sizing, crafting of
3D solids and surfaces, material selection and weight estimation,
composite laminate design and considerations and improvements
pertinent to mass production
- Engage and collaborate with Aerodynamicists, Acousticians,
Dynamicists and Stress and Fatigue Analysts
- Create technical specifications, design components and
assemblies in CATIA V6, build 2D drawings with appropriate GD&T
and release those drawings in the PLM system
- Responsible for the components/assemblies lifecycle from
conceptual design through buildup and test of the prototype air
vehicles.
- Support the broader team in the incorporation of rotor systems
into the air vehicle in the areas of: rotor blade to hub
integration, rotor hub to drivetrain integration and integration of
instrumentation
- Provide technical guidance to the suppliers of any rotor system
assembly components
- Collaborate with the Assembly and Integration Team to provide
prototype parts to support system level testing and engineering
builds
- Work collaboratively with the Test and Evaluation team to plan,
support, and conduct tests as required
- Build and maintain Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis
(DFMEA) reports for systems and components
- Create Purchase Requisitions and other engineering
administrative tasks as required to support prototype build and
testing What you can contribute:
- Bachelor of Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- 5 years' experience in a relevant engineering field (an
equivalent combination of education and experience may be
considered)
- Prior experience crafting rotating machinery
- Proficiency with 3D Computer Aided Design System (CATIA V6,
SolidWorks, Solid Edge, Auto CAD or equivalent)
- Proven conceptual design experience, including 3D layouts
- Proficiency with vehicle and related sub-component product
development processes
- An ability to interact professionally with all levels of
management, including executive management and multi-functional
leaders
- Able to proactively identify problems, recommend solutions or
improvements, and create and implement contingency plans
- A strong sense of integrity, personal responsibility and
accountability for major assignments
- Positive relationship skills; ability to develop consensus and
move the program forward
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail You may also be able to contribute:
- Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering degree or
equivalent
- Experience working on helicopter and/or tiltrotor rotor
systems
- Experience with developing rotor system test plans
- Familiarity with data collection and analysis
- Prior background with rotor system tests
- Knowledge of a Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software such
as 3D Experience
- Prior background knowledge of electric and hybrid powertrain
